The article begins with the fact that many projects start with assumptions. We assume that users understand hamburgers and how the mega menu work; that they will know how to work with disabled buttons; that they safely store passwords and access to access and that they admire when determining pedestrian crossings and fire hydrants.

💡 However, the assumptions are often erroneous. People are very well able to find loopholes and reduce pathways. They are also incredibly good to bend the rules for things to work best for them. That is why we often notice passwords recorded on sticky notes and registration instructions that are notorically missed.

  • 📌 Assumptions often turn out to be false
  • 📌 People are able to find loopholes and shortening paths
  • 📌 Users often miss registration instructions
🧩 Summary: Unfortunately, users, in general, do not trust websites. They are often perceived as "hostile", "unfriendly", "busy", "annoying" and "confused". That is why the standard attitude to any website is mostly the same: to block everything!
🧠 Own considerations: Frequent errors in custom behavior assumptions may occur due to insufficient study or understanding of the target audience. In order to avoid this, developers and designers must do more research work and include users in the design process.
