Shumway: Open Source SWF Render from Mozilla based on JavaScript

Mozilla seeks to withdraw all browser plugins and to "develop an open web platform for safe processing of multi-editory formats", as they stated in their blog when presenting the Shumway project almost a year ago. In particular, they focus on the most popular plugins, including obsessive Flash player.

Despite the hope that HTML5 will replace Flash for video processing, etc., there are still many obstacles. Flash content that will not disappear soon and HTML5, which requires more time to create complex animations, do not yet provide stable impressions in different browsers and platforms.

Shumway was available as an extension for a browser for a while, but it is important that the main code was also placed in Firefox Nightly on October 2.
